Beginning & Intermediate Filmmaking and Acting for the Screen

Telling visual stories is core to how we communicate today. Students in Grades 3+ can start now getting to know how to communicate on screen, whether behind or in front of the camera. Interested in other media topics? EMAIL US or click your interests on the survey at the bottom of this page.

Tuesdays, 6:00pm to 7:00pm

Beginning students focus on the fun – they get moving immediately and stay active, making short movies in small groups, with lessons and challenges to encourage students to start thinking critically about filmmaking. Beginning students who show focus and sincere interest may be invited to join the film crews for the intermediate class in the spring.

Students may join Beginning Media in any session.

5:00pm to 6:00pm Class
6:00pm to 7:30pm Optional Time

The program for intermediate students is a year-long arc where we break down making movies into all the parts, from writing, design, and production planning, to being on set, to editing and post, with the goal of making a refined short film by the end of the school year.

Optional Time is for Production Time, Editing, & Film Screening. Students may join the Beginning Students if they wish. During the winter session, students will be encouraged to assist in the Acting for Screen class to learn and practice framing and actor coaching.

The intermediate class will include some production time off-site in the spring. This will be scheduled at the convenience of the students and will require parent chaperones to participate.

No prior experience is required to take the Intermediate level, so long as the student has a sincere and focused interest in filmmaking.

Students who wish to join late must discuss with us before signing up. Focused and sincerely interested 4th graders may also join with prior permission. EMAIL US to discuss your student.
